Our food is simple. The core to all our recipes are whole, natural ingredients. Pure maple syrup (aka liquid gold) being one of the key sweeteners we use in our sauces and dressings.

Where it all began…
Pierre Heroux spent summers working on the family farm in South Durham, Quebec. The Proulx Family Farm specialized in dairy and maple syrup production. Little did he know, 45 years later, it would be the foundation of his own family business.
Breakfasts on the farm were simple. Homespun crepes cooked on buttery cast iron, stuffed with brown sugar and the family’s own maple syrup. The smell of grandma’s cooking wafted through the farmhouse and welcomed these tiny humans into the home. We’re not sure if they were actually WORKING or just playing in the cow pasture, but when they pranced into the door, there was grandma, table set with that familiar, unpretentious, comforting, Canadian “soul food”.
The basic nature of that simple scene is what the foundation of our business is built upon.
Fast forward fifteen years later. Pierre meets Karen Faiello and together they build a family of five in Rochester, NY. Being from an Italian-American family, she was no stranger to the concept of large family gatherings centered around food… good food.
The Heroux Family home was always a lively stomping ground for friends and family. The kitchen being commonplace for morning drop by coffee dates, ritual nightly dinners and slow weekend brunches.
The family temporarily relocated to Tokyo, Japan in the early 90s where they continued these traditions with new friends of all nationalities, sharing recipes and flavors from around the globe, truly immersing themselves into varying cultures and travel. Karen honed her culinary craft and Pierre became fully disciplined in Japanese business practices. The family moved back to Rochester several years later with a set of skills that would redefine their journey.
Karen is the driving force behind the restaurant’s existence. Her vision came to life in 2003 when she inspired Pierre to take a leap of faith with her; to create a business of their own, a niche concept based on their family’s heritage, experience overseas and an innate passion for family.
We call our space “progressively traditional” as our concept to a CORE is built on familial, approachable, comforting ground, yet transcends into a space that is absolutely current and adaptable to today’s trends.
We like to call that kind of thing, homespun.
